The Story of Alqamah

At the time of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam), there was a young man named Alqamah. He was very diligent in obeying Allah by engaging in prayer and fasting and spending in charity.

Then one day, he fell ill and his illness became serious. His wife went to the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) and said, “My husband, Alqamah, is on his deathbed. I therefore came to tell you, Messenger of Allah, about his condition.”

The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) (then) sent for Ammar or Suhaib and Bilal (radiAllahu anhum), and told them to go to him (Alqamah) and have him repeat the Shahadah. Thereupon they went to him and found him in the agony of death. They asked him to say, “La illaha illa Allah,” but his tongue was unable to pronounce it. At that, they came and told the Messenger of Allah that he was unable to repeat the Shahadah.

The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) asked, “Is either of his parents alive?”

He was told, “Messenger of Allah, his mother is, but she is very old.” The Prophet sent her a message that if it was convenient for her (that is, is she was able to go out), she should come to him; otherwise she should stay in her house and the Prophet would come to her.

The Prophet’s messenger came to her and informed her of the Prophet’s message.

She said, “May my life be a ransom for him, it is my pleasure to go to him!”

She then stood up, leaning on her walking stick, and came to the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) and greeted him. The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) returned her greeting and said to her, “Umm Alqamah, tell me the truth, for otherwise Allah Most High will reveal the truth to me! What is the situation concerning your son, Alqamah?”

She replied, “Messenger of Allah, he prays much, fasts a great deal, and spends a great amount in charity.”

“And what about yourself?,” asked the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam)

“Messenger of Allah, I am angry with him,” she said

“Why?,” asked the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam)

“Messenger of Allah, he has preferred his wife to me and has disobeyed me.” Then Allah’s Messenger said, “Umm Alqamah, surely your anger has prevented Alqamah’s tongue from pronouncing the Shahadah.”

He then turned to Bilal and said, “Bilal, go out and collect a quantity of firewood.” “Messenger of Allah, what do you plan to do?, asked Umm Alqamah

He replied, “I will burn him in front of your eyes.”

“Messenger of Allah, he is my son! My heart cannot bear your burning him in front of me!,” exclaimed Umm Alqamah “Umm Alqamah, Allah’s punishment is more severe and more lasting! Therefore, if you want Allah to forgive him, be reconciled to him. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the prayer, fasting, and spending in charity (which he has done) are of no benefit to Alqamah as long as you are angry with him!,” replied the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam).

Thereupon she said, “Messenger of Allah, I call upon Allah Most High and His angels and the Muslims who are present to be my witnesses that I am pleased with my son Alqamah.”

Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, “Bilal, go to him and see whether he is now able to say, “La illaha illa Allah” or not. It may be that Umm Alqamah is saying something for my sake which is not in her heart.”

Thereupon Bilal went, and while entering the door he heard Alqamah saying, “La illaha illa Allah.” (Concerning this), Bilal remarked, “It is surely true that while Alqamah’s mother was angry with him his tongue was tied, and now that she is pleased with him his tongue is freed.”

Alqamah died the same day. The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) came to him and gave the order for his washing and shrouding, and then prayed the funeral prayer for him and buried him.

He then stood by the side of his grave and said, “You company of Muhajireen and Helpers, if anyone favors his wife over his mother, Allah and His angels and all the people curse him! Allah does not accept his spending (in charity) and his uprightness unless he repents toward Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, and reconciles with her and attains her pleasure, because Allah’s pleasure consists in her pleasure and Allah’s anger consists in her anger.”

Co-Wives Random Rants

June 24, 2009 ummaslam 8 comments

My co-wife’s vacation time is almost over bummer I know, but hey it’s been fun and we’ve enjoyed each others company thus far masha Allah. Before leaving I thought we would do a post together insha Allah and this is what we’ve come up with .

random-cheer-logo-lg

1. why does it seem easier to wash dishes at someone eles’s house than your own ? Or easier to clean at someone else house than your own?  I’ve always felt this way I can go to a friends house and clean the heck out of it and fast too, but it takes me hours to clean my own hmmm what’s that all about.

2. Why when you go to a resturants the waiter/waitress seems to rush you to order ? Or am I the only one who feels this way I like to look at the entire menu just so I don’t skip something that I might want to try .

3. Why do waiter/waitress take the menu from you when their done taking your order I’m the type of person who will order a another whole meal to go…… so please can I keep the menu justa little bit longer dang I said please…..LOL

4. I feel like I am officially a mother to a teenager despite he has not reached 13 yet (still have a few months)  I’ve recently found out this little girl up the street has a crush on my son, oh how nice  (in a not so happy tone) I thought all of this would start once he was a little ways into teen yrs . Despite all my concerns and worry my co-wife still managed to ask  is she muslim ? :) Gotta Love step-moms .

5.Why does it seem like drive thru always takes longer than going inside.

6. Got my ac fixed in my car well sorta ……..it will be fixed soon insha Allah the mechanic sorta rigged the air conditioner to my battery and now  the air conditioner does not shut off at all until you cut the car off  I am fine with that for now. Can you imagine two niqabi’s in a hot car with kids OH MY GOODNESS DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN.

7.Wudu oh I could do a complete post alone on the way some people make wudu …… Why when boys/men in particular make wudu they leave the bathroom soooooooooooo dog on wet UGH oh that irritates me so much and  the not wiping up the water afterwards as if they didn’t see all of that water they left behind  my goodness.  You know what’s worse having a big ole sign on the mirror saying clean water up after wudu and they still don’t do it .

8. This past Jumah my co-wife and I went to the masjid together but didn’t sit next to eachother because of the timing each of us came back from making wudu masjid got pretty full quick. Why once sisters find out you two are co-wives they start acting weird like afraid to talk with us seperate or together hmmmm whats that all about would it make you more comfortable if we were fighting ?

9.Speaking of Jumah why when you have a shoe shelf for shoes there is always more shoes on the floor in front of the shoe shelf than on the actual shoe shelf?

10. Why after being told the Jumah befor to please stop talking during the kutbah you come back the following week doing the same thing. There should be an “Adult Women time out section” at the masjid for women who come each and every week and chat it up.  It becomes so anoying and disturbing, please women and I am speaking to my self first when I say stay home if you just can not fight the urge to TALK PLEASE STAY HOME .

11. Whats worst is non muslim women coming to the masjid and is wearing the hijab correctly and some muslim women aren’t. Oh yeah and guess what they are not talking during the kutbah either cmon sisters we’ve got to do better. May Allah guide us Ameen.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When a child dies, Allaah says to His angels, ‘You have taken the child of My slave.’ They say, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘You have taken the apple of his eye.’ They say, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘What did My slave say?’ They say, ‘He praised yoau and said “In naa lil laa hi wa inna ilay hi raa ji’oon (Verily, to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return).’ Allaah says, ‘Build for My slave a house in Paradise and call it the house of praise.’” (Al-Tirmidhi)
