Saying Ramadan Kareem……**Rewind**

August 22, 2009 ummaslam 3 comments

As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahamatulahi Wa Baraktu

Ramadan Mubarak ! Ahhhh finally the blessed month of Ramadan is upon us alhumdulilah I love Ramadan and this time of the yr masha Allah. I will insha Allah call my previous posted post **Rewind** just to indicate i’ve posted this before, insha Allah you all will find this particular post a great reminder in this month of Ramadan alhumdulilah  . I was reminded last night by one of my co-wives that today is my birthday masha Allah, the kids and I went to Taraweeh prayer last night alhumdulilah  during the 5 min break we took during taraweeh prayer the imam made an anouncement saying the masjid will have a quran memorizationcontest and will ask two trivia questions on Quran  every night until the 27th night of Ramadan masha Allah this will be good for the kids I will post the questions asked every night and post the answers later insha Allah this will be something fun for the kids and us as well  . I pray you all have a blessed month of Ramadan  and may Allah accept our fast and dua’s  Ameen.

Questioner: When the fasting person falls into a sin and he is prohibited from that sin he will say, “Ramadan Kareem”. So what is the ruling concerning this phrase and what is the ruling concerning this behavior?

Sheik Uthaymeen: said:
The ruling concerning this is, this phrase “Ramadan Kareem” is not correct, and the only phrase that should be said is “Ramadan Mubarak”or what resembles that. Because Ramadan is not the one that gives such that it can be called generous (Kareem), rather it is only ALLAH the Exalted that put virtue in it and made it a virtuous month and made the time period for performing (the fasting) a pillar from Islam. And it is as though the one who said this thinks that due to the nobility of this month it is permissible to commit sins. And that is in opposition to what the people of knowledge have said (for they have said) that the sins are multiplied if they are done during virtuous times or noble places so this is the opposite of what this person has pictured. And they have said that it is incumbent upon the person to have Taqwaa of ALLAH the Mighty and Majestic during every time and in every place especially during virtuous times and in noble places. And ALLAH the Mighty and Majestic says “Oh you who believe fasting has been prescribed for you like it was prescribed for those before you that you may obtain Taqwaa.” So the wisdom behind the obligation of fasting is to gain Taqwaa of ALLAH the Mighty and Majestic by doing what He has ordered and avoiding what He has prohibited. And it has been established that the Prophet peace and blessing be upon him said “Whoever does not abandon falsehood in word and action, then Allah Mighty and Majestic has no need that he should leave his food and drink”. Therefore fasting is worship for ALLAH and cultivation for the soul and a safeguard for it from the prohibitions of ALLAH. And it is not like this one without knowledge has said that due to the nobility of this month and its blessing, sinning is allowed in it.

Ramadan Has Arrived

August 21, 2009 ummaslam 3 comments

Ramadan has arrived!
By Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Fowzan

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Ramadan has come to you – a blessed month. Allah has made obligatory upon you its fasting. In it, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed and the devils are chained.

To Allah belongs a night in it, which is better than a thousand months. Whosoever is denied its good, then he has been deprived.” (Musnad Ahmad and An-Nasa’i).

It is unfortunate that many people neither know the value of this auspicious month nor do they consider it to be sacred. So Ramadan, for them, is no longer a significant time for obedience and worship like reciting the Qur’an, giving in charity and making remembrance of Allah.

Instead, to such people Ramadan is a month to prepare and relish different types of dishes. Others spend Ramadan sleeping during the day and meeting people and attending gatherings during the night. Some even sleep past the time of the obligatory prayers, thus not praying in congregation or at their proper times. This is the extent to which views (of Ramadan) have changed.

Some of the pious predecessors used to say: “Indeed Allah, the Most High, has made the month of Ramadan as a competition for His creatures, in which they may race with one another to attain His pleasure, by obeying Him.

Thus, one group comes first and so they prosper and another group comes last and so they fail.” (Lata’if-ul-Ma’arif of Ibn Rajab, pg. 246)

Also, one does not know if this is the last Ramadan he will ever see in his life. How many men, women and children fasted with us last year, and yet now they lie buried in the depths of the earth, depending on their good deeds. And they expected to fast many more Ramadans!

Likewise, we too shall follow their path. Therefore, it is upon Muslims to rejoice at this great opportunity of doing good deeds. They should not neglect it, but instead be busy with what will benefit them and what will lead them to reap its everlasting fruits.

Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho): Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam)said, “Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven .” Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 231

Q/A Children who do not Pray

August 20, 2009 ummaslam 3 comments

Children Who Do Not Pray
Question:

What is incumbent upon the family regarding children who have abandoned prayer?
Answer:

If they have children who do not pray, then it is incumbent upon them to compel them to pray, either by speaking to them and ordering them, or by beating them, according to the words of the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam)
”And beat them if they do not do it by the age of ten .” [1]
If beating does not benefit them, then their case must be referred to the responsible authorities in the government, may Allah grant them success, in order to force them to do it, and it is not lawful to remain silent regarding them. Because doing so entails endorsing sin, since abandoning prayer is kufr which removes the perpetrator from the fold of Islam, so the one who abandons the prayer is a disbeliever who will dwell eternally in the Fire. If he died thus, it is not permissible to wash his body, nor to pray over him, nor to bury him in the graveyards of the muslims. We ask Allah to save us from that.
